Final day of filming complete!

Today we finished off the rest of the filming of the music video. It was a day where the British weather really played about continuously changing from sun to rain which at times did prevent us from filming. We started off the day at Greenwich Pier and started off well filming the scene that we needed to. The scenary was as perfect as I remembered from when we visited it on the day we did our recce. After filming finished at Greenwich we made our way to Douglas Path to film the next scene and the location that we needed to film at was isolated and therefore there were no disturbance when filming and we were well on time with the production schedule. We then moved to Millwall park where we needed to film various shots and this was when it started to rain and effect our filming. We decided to get the shots under the bridge done first as it was dry under the bridge and we could film this easily. On our storyboard some of the shots show the actor and actress on the grass messing about but as the grass was wet and we did not want the clothes of our actor and actress to get wet and dirty we had to improvise. We decided that we should do a point of view shot from the male lead and create a home video style recording where the male lead is holding the camera and recording himself and the actress. This proved to work fantastically well as it now gave our music video a new edge and also a different kind of camera shot that we did not intial intend upon but was great as we now added a different element to the music video. We then moved onto the bench scene and again the rain started to slowly pour down but we decided to be persistent and get the scene shot and we managed to do this quickly as possible before the rain got any worse. We then carried on to our last location which was West India Quays and here we filmed the ending sequence which was a lip syching scene on the green bridge and where the main actor burns the photo of the two main characters in the film and walks away. We had trouble lightening up the lighter to burn the photos intially due to the cold weather and so we decided that the main lead should burn part of the photo and then he decides that he can't go through with it and chucks the photo on the floor and walks away. This proved to be easier and worked well. The day was eventful and challenging but we managed to complete the filming of our music video so we as a group were happy. We now move onto post production, editing our music video.

2nd Team Meeting

Today we held a second team meeting before a second day of shooting tomorrow. Again we had both cast and crew present at the meeting and we went over what scenes need to be done tomorrow and where we will start from. We also made arrangements to meet up at the first location we are shooting at that which is Greenwich. This was a productive meeting as everyone knew what was going to happen at tomorrows shoot and was fully briefed.

First Day Of Filming

Today we filmed the first half of our music video. It was a day with many events but we successfully finished the first half of our video. To be honest it was a bit ambitious thinking that we would get the whole music video filmed within one day, considering the various locations that we had planned to use in our music video. The day started off at Walthamstow Mall where we shot the first flashback scene of the video. We spent more time then we would have liked at this location but this was due to problems we faced with the photo booth machine that we were using. Nevertheless, we prevailed in successfully filming the shots that we needed and then set off to our second location which was Nergiz Cafe in Leyton. After finishing filming at the cafe the battery of the camera we were using died. We had the charger with us and we all agreed that we should have a lunch break where we could sit down somewhere and charge the camera. We then moved onto the next location which was Stratford and there we had lunch and charged the camera. After the camera was charged we set of to Stratford Bridge. Here we occurred problems as we were planning to film on the bridge we were approached by a member of the Westfeild Stratford shopping centre who told us that we required permission from Westfeild Stratford management to film at the bridge. This was news to us as we were unaware that we required permission to film on the bridge yet Me and Yasmeen went up to the management office to ask for permission to film on the bridge. Once we arrived however the women on the desk told us that authorization takes up to 3 days and we reported this back to the rest of the group and after discussing it with the group we came to the conclusion that we should not film on Stratford bridge and find a new location to film the scene that we needed to. After coming to that agreement we also mutually decided that we should call it a wrap for the day as the day had gone pretty fast and it was past five. We all arranged to meet up next Saturday to finish off the rest of the music video and everyone was happy with that decision. Also the weather was good to us as it luckily did not rain. All in all we faced difficulties but I think we handed them well and every music video has there fair share of challenges. It was a productive day as we got two of locations that we had to film at done. I'm looking forward to next Saturday and continuing with the filming. Bring it on!.

1st Team Meeting

Today we held a meeting consisting of cast and crew. This was fairly important as it gave me the chance to brief the cast and crew of what the plan is for tomorrow. I went over the storyboard with the actor and actress so that they knew the general idea of how we are planning to film the music video and also what is required of them. In this meeting I also handed out production schedules to everyone and we all came to a arrangement of where to meet up tomorrow morning.

Production Schedule

On Thursday night I created a production schedule for our shoot on Saturday. I included locations and locations maps just incase any of the crew or cast did now know where the locations were. I also included contact information so that all members of cast and crew could contact each other if necessary. I also made a checklist of all the equipment and props needed for saturday and finally I also included the schedule of what is happening on the day and what time. I then sent this information to the rest of the group and also made sure that everyone had a printed copy with them for saturday.

Recce

After discussing locations with the group we set out to visit all are locations to see if they were suitable and to also plan on how we would frame our shots and where it would be best to position our actors. We also looked at other factors that may affect out filming such as lightening and audience. This was extremely beneficial as we could get to know our locations and get the feel of the atmosphere and prepare ourselves for when we start filming. The picture on the left is a location at Greenwich Pier this is where we film one of the lip synching scenes to the chorus. The reason why we chose this location was in the background the scenery is quite spectacular with city scrapers visible and the river Thames in the background, also the position of where the actor will be standing which in on the corner of the glass barricades means that there will be no interference from the public in the background and so the shot will only feature the male lead. In this shot the male lead will be lip synching towards the camera while his facial expression show pain and despair.
This is the location we chose to for one of the flashbacks when the two characters in the music video initially meet. The reason why thought this would be a perfect location is that the area is secluded in that there are not many public members walking by also there is a bench where the two characters can sit and talk and this can be filmed easily. Also there are nice trees around the location and the pathway is wide enough to do a panning shot and to place a tripod at various angles. Also there is a lot of natural lightening available at this location.

At the start of the music video we are going to use Millwall Park where we film certain flashbacks as well as some lip synching scenes. The park is big and spacious which means that there is a lot of open area that we can film in. The picture on the right shows where we plan to position our actor and actress, they will be lying on the floor looking happily at each other while the camera shows a bird’s eye view shot of the couple together. We will also show a long shot of the stone ball on the top of the mini hill where the actor and actress will be sitting next to and this will provide different and unique scenery to that of many other parks.

We as a group decided that in one of the scenes we should have the male lead sitting under a bridge singing the chorus but he is looking upset and distraught and looking down at the floor and slouching against the wall of the bridge and we would film this by using a low angle shot. We found this bridge next to Millwall Park and though it was perfect as the lightening is not effected that the scene would be too dark and also because the bridge is wide enough so that is enough space to film the shot. The male lead will be walking towards the bridge but then sitting down alone looking very saddened and alone.

We also needed café to shoot one of our flashback scenes and we found this café in Greenwich Café Rouge which we thought would be the ideal location. The café has a somewhat 60’s feel to it and the lightening in the café is also very good. There were many tables and chairs and we found a place in the corner that we could use to film. In this scene the male lead will be with his former lover and this scene is to re-create there first ever date however he then revisits this café by himself to revoke old memories and then he envisions the time they spent there only to later realise he is only having an illusion.

Our last location of the shoot we chose was West India Quays the reason why we chose this location is because the backdrop is amazing as there are tall skyscrapers everywhere and then there is then this odd green bridge that goes against everything that is in the shot. This shot is the ending sequence in where the male lead walks up the bridge and burns the photo of him and the lover together and then throws it in the river while the camera gets a close shot of the burning of the photo and then follows the photo and it flickers away into the river and this is where the song ends. We then see the male lead walk away from the bridge and the camera shows a long shot as the male lead disappears into the distance.
