Approach to Evaluation Task
Today we started looking into how to approach are evaluation task and the methods that we were going to use to construct it. I have chosen to do a creative evaluation by using various technologies in order to answer each of the four questions. This weekend I am going to plan and draft my answers to the questions and then work on them from there.

Getting the word out!
I told various people including close freinds and family to have a look at our work and see what they think about our music video, our album and our magazine advert. I then asked them to complete our online survery and afterwards I will review the feedback recieved.

Audience Research Task
We needed to get audience feedback on our music video and print products and rather than do another focus group we decided to try a different method and use a survery to see what audiences think. The survey below was created for audiences to give us feedback about our media products that we have created.

Please have a look at our survery. Thanks.

CD and Insert developement
We experimented with different colours to see what worked well and we also changed the right hand insert of the montage of the couple to a green tone so that it matched with the CD. However, after looking at the CD we felt that it did not look professional and would not work with the package. We as a group decided that we should keep our CD simple but effective as we thought that the simplicity would go with our whole product. The use of the font colour of black and white keeps with the house style of our ancillary texts and therefore we are keeping consistency. We have creatively positioned the text on our CD by putting one half on the album name 'Take it' on the left hand side and 'All Away on the right hand side and this is to represent the breaking up of the relationship in the music video.

Final Magazine Advert
This is the Magazine advert that we have created this would be displayed on various music magazines.
Final Inserts of album
This is the left hand side insert the reason why we chose this picture as it symbolizes loneliness a aspect of which our music video portrays also this is one of the locations in which we shot our music video so is a location photo in which many albums use. Viewers will recognise this photo from the video and the reason why we made the photo black and white is that it represents the past. Also the insert of the album does not consist of many bright colours therefore black and white suits well with the house style. This is the second insert of the album which will be placed on the right hand side. Here we used a montage of the two actors as photo booth pictures and this links to the music video as in the video the couple take pictures in the photo booth and these are essentially the photo's from that scene. The photo booth picture plays a big role in the music video as it the only thing that Tyler has to remember of his old girlfriend. Initially I thought that it would be good to have the photo booth pictures ripped up into pieces and that should be the insert with the pieces scattered around the CD as this symbolises that the couple are not together anymore and that they have broken up it also closely linked to the end of the video where Tyler burns the photos and then rips the photo's to shreds before chucking them on the floor and walking away. However, Yasmeen and Stephanie decide that the pictures should be intact as the photos should tell the audience what they used to have and the good times they shared as some what memorabilia. Therefore that is how we decided to the second insert. Again the photo's are black and white sticking to the house style and the photo's background looked better as black and white.
This is the final CD and it is just plain black CD with the artist name and the album name in a white font. It follows the Amerie case study where her CD is a green color CD with her name and album name in a simple bright white font. The Amerie case study follows its house style throughout and our CD also follows our house style therefore it is consistent with the rest of our print products as the magazine advert uses the 2 of the colours used here black and white in its color scheme.
This is how the CD would look on the side which consists of the CD insert.
Development of Album front cover and back
Front Cover
Before we started working on the front cover we as group knew what kind of picture we wanted to use an median shot of the main artist with one of his leg bent against a brick wall. From our presentation of album ideas you could see how we wanted to compose the picture and followed it exactly how we presented in the mock up. The artists body languaged is relaxed and cool and he is not showing any direct eye contact something I told the artist not to do as this shows that artist has something on his mind which is the break up with his girlfreind. Also the reason I wanted the brick wall as the background as it links to the scenes in the music video where the artist is sitting against a brick wall. The brick wall connotes strength as the cement inbetween the bricks hold it together and this what the main artist needs in the video, to be strong and hold himself together. That is why in the video he leans back against the brick wall for support but here on the front cover of the album he only has one leg up against the wall to show that now he can hold himself together.
When we intially took the picture we made sure that the artist was more on the right hand side as then it left space on the left hand side of the photo for the album name. We made the text black cause it is eye catching and bold and also it was one of our house style fonts. Also the artist is mainly wearing black clothing with a dark green scarf so the picture and the text are consistent. Also after discussion with the group Stephanie and Yasmeen decided that we should make the image more of a median shot by cropping the bottom part of the photo so that his legs aren't on show.
Here you can see we adjusted the text and took the album name down to the bottom as we felt that there was some space in the bottem that could be filled and that it looked better seperated. We changed the text font from calibri to Trajan Pro. Also the album name was made italic so that the text had a flow to it also the artist looks like his looking to the left toward his own name.
Here is the first idea we had for our album the background of the back of the album is a brick wall and this was done to keep consistency with the front of the album. The background was lightened so that the black text would stand out against the backdrop. We then added a track list of various songs of the artist like any other album. Also other usual conventions added were a barcode the music company logo to which the artist is signed to and the artists webpage. We also added a copyright statement at the bottom right hand corner addressing the huge problem in the music indrustry in this day of age which is illegal filesharing.

However we did experiment with the backdrop and made it white to see how it looked but realised that it was a huge contrast from the front cover so would not work. Also it was to simple for album.
In the end this was our final product of the back cover. We believed it looked original was consistent was also following our colour scheme of black and white and followed all the conventions of a what an album package would look like.

We
started off with a choosing a distinctive photo and we chose this picture as we
felt it had an empowering presence to it and would catch the audience’s
attention. The lightening in the picture
is used in a creative way as if a spot light was shun upon him connoting that
he is the up and coming new star. It
closes reflect to the case study that I have done on Mos Def in which it uses a
median standing shot where he looks towards the distance connoting that he as ambitions to become one of the
best artist out there. His posture also drags audiences in as if to say ‘Look
at me’. I then started to create a
masthead of his name which is big bold and dark again to reel audiences in and
grab their attention. I then made the
album name font white so that it contrasts off the artist’s name. The
date was also in the font of gold to connote that this is the golden date in
which the much anticipated Tyler Dew’s
album is released.
Here
I changed the font of the date to make it much more darker as I thought a dark
font would work well to imprint in the
minds of the audiences
that
this is
when the album will come out and that they need to remember
it After
that I started experimenting with taglines. I also added and manipulated a variety of
effects such as colour contrast and selective colour.
On
my third
draft I
realised that too many bright font colours were being used and it was not
consistent. Therefore I realised that I needed to
keep to a constant colour scheme which was black, white and the natural grey in
the background. Also the convention of
taglines that I adopted from my Plan B case study were
created I thought four taglines were
sufficient amount for this magazine advert.
This is my second to last version of my magazine advert, First of all I added
an affect called drop shadow on both the artists name and the album name and
this made it stand out more from the page. I also used airbrushing tools to
remove red blemishes and spots away from the artist’s face this makes him look
much more presentable. After a discussion amongst the group and from comments
from classmates we thought that the taglines made the advert somewhat messy and
predictable therefore we thought that critic ratings would be a much better
suit for our advert then taglines as we had seen critical ratings used on the
Plan B case study. Critical ratings is a
fantastic convention and selling tool as the ratings come from respectable and
well known sources such as in this case a variety of well-established music
magazines. This makes the reader know
that music critics believe this a fantastic album and therefore they should buy
the album as they guaranteed to listen to great music. Critical ratings are the
opinions of the critics and this valuable to audiences if they do not know much
about the album or artist. I also made the font text consistent as I realised
this was not the case in previous drafts. Then I added the artist’s official
website and the website of the music company that he is signed to on the bottom
of the page as audiences can go on these sites and find out more about the
artists music as well as find more artist similar to his genre on the music
company’s website. I then added various
logo’s such as the Apple logo and the HMV logo as these are sources
distribution for the album so audiences know where the can buy the album. The
Sony music logo was also added so that they audiences know which company he
signed to.
My final edition of my magazine advert has not changed significantly to last one but I have added margins onto the magazine advert as after much deliberation with my group we felt that maybe the text was too much on the left hand side and did not look like the finished product. By adding a 2cm margin onto the advert we found it look much better and much more how a professional magazine would look like
